Democrats have long denied the job-killing effects of minimum wage increases, but lately their proposals are making even liberal economists shake their heads. In Seattle, Mayor Ed Murray is proposing a $15 per hour minimum wage, an idea that he stole from a Socialist Party city council candidate! Slate calls the move “risky,” full of “red flags,” and says the city will likely suffer.
Not to be outdone, California Democrat Congresswoman Barbara Lee thinks that her state should up the minimum wage to $26 per hour!! (Why stop there? How about $1 million dollars per hour).
The silver lining? Maybe one of these places will actually give this a try and show just how counter-productive the Democrats’ minimum wage ideas are.
